                   Introduction

   Man Kunwar Bai College established in 1954 is a Government Autonomous college belonging to Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh state. The College which is affiliated to the Rani Durgavati  University  of Jabalpur is a grant – in – aid institution recognized by  the UGC under 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act of 1956. It was conferred autonomous status by the UGC in the year 1990. The College has progressed to become one of the leading women colleges in the country ever since its existence. It was accredited by the NAAC first time in the year 2004 and was conferred A+ grade.

  The College is located in the centre of Jabalpur city on a campus of 3.13 acres of land. The College offers 02 programme options in the faculties of Arts and Commerce including 09 self-financing and 05 P.G. diploma courses. The College has P.G. in 13 subjects. There are altogether 15 departments.

 This college was established to provide higher education to young and deserving girls students, especially for those belonging to underprivileged community. At present about 85% of the students belong to economically weaker section of the society. The primary goal of the institution is to train young women to become leaders in various spheres of the society. It is also dedicated towards nurturing scholarly dynamism, concern, compassion and respect to others.

 Since it is an autonomous institution, the college develops and modifies its own syllabi as per the overall guidelines of the UGC, Jabalpur University and the central board through its Boards of Studies (BOS) and Academic Council (AC). The admission process is absolutely transparent and in accordance with the reservation cum merit norms of the state government. 

 With the introduction of the semester system since 2009 college is practicing learner centered pedagogy through projects, library visits, internship, industrial and institutional visits etc. Apart from archetypal lecture method, student’s participation in Seminars, Group Discussions, Workshops and Extension Lectures on contemporary and emerging issues is encouraged. Further, they are exposed to facilities like Overhead projector, LCD projector, audio-visual packages, Computer and Internet in teaching learning method. The facilities of departmental library, fully automated central library, language lab and digital theater have introduced the students to modern methods of teaching and learning.

The College has 76 sanctioned teaching posts which are filled. Teachers are well qualified with 61 teachers holding Ph.D as the highest degree

The college has also adopted the feedback mechanism for the evaluation of the teachers by the students. The College has an impressive record of smooth and transparent examination and evaluation.

 The other student support services in M.K.B. College include the Teacher- Guardian Scheme Grievance Redressal Cell, Women-Sexual Harassment Cell, Student cell and Student Union. The college has active participation of the alumni for mutual benefits. Many of the alumni hold distinguished positions in different walks of life in the country and overseas.

The college also functions as a research centre where substantial numbers of students are registered to pursue their Ph.D. degree under the guidance of the faculty members. 16 members of teaching faculty are recognized as research guides by the Rani Durgawati University Jabalpur.

The College publishes an annual magazine “Manasi” and a research journal on Arts and humanities “Anviksha”.

The College has sufficient infrastructure for the existing academic programmes and administrative functions. There are altogether  42  classrooms, 01 auditorium 01 conference halls, 01 students’ common hall, 03 computer  laboratories, 13 departmental Libraries, 01 Automated library, 02 common and 09 separate departments with Computer, Intercom and Internet connectivity. There is Audio connectivity in all the class rooms and local telephone coin boxes inside the premises.

The College has a Central library and 11 departmental libraries. The fully automated library has a collection of 50,275 books, 37943 text books 12,332 reference books and it subscribes to 20 journals and 21 magazines. The online material provided through the digital library is available to the staff and students throughout the year

The College has a joint hostel in Govt. M.H. College of Home Science situated just opposite the college building to accommodate 100 students of this college.

This joint Hostel is provided with all basic infrastructures. The college has adequate infrastructure for the sports and games. It has one multipurpose field for athletics, volleyball, basket ball and Kho- Kho and Indoor facility for chess, carom and table-tennis.

  Financial support is available to the students in the form of state government scholarships and schemes for SC, ST and OBC, students. Various kinds of financial assistance are provided to the needy and deserving students in the form of fee concessions, railway concession also.

The College has Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) since 2004 that provides consultancy on health, law and tax related area. The college has also strengthened counselling and placement services with the establishment of “Swami Vivekanand Career Counselling and Placement Cell” since 2006. The Placement Cell offers training and development programmes to the students and arranges for campus interview for employment in the industry and other organizations. Two full time trained counsellors have been employed to help the students in their personal and career related problems. The faculty members are also involved in providing academic and personal counseling through the Teacher- Guardian Scheme available to all the students. The College has a number of welfare programmes for students and staff, which include various scholarships, group insurance, medical reimbursement and various loans and advances.

       The College regularly takes up extension activities and various types of outreach programmes through its departments, NCC and NSS units to inculcate social concern in the minds of the students especially for the oppressed and underprivileged. In the year 2009 the NCC unit has won the trophy for being the “Best Company” in the state.

  Thus, Government Man Kunwar Bai Arts& Commerce Autonomous College for Women, Jabalpur is dedicated to turn its vision and mission into reality by putting in sincere efforts in all the spheres of academic, co-curricular and administrative activities.
